Dermal fillers fill out wrinkles or add volume to parts of the face using materials which are based on hyaluronan, a substance naturally found in the body. They revitalize the face with a natural, soft effect and do not affect facial expression. The effects can be seen immediately and can last between 6 – 12 months.
Dermal fillers are used commonly for
– nose to mouth lines (nasolabial folds)
– volumising and reshaping the lips
Lost volume can be replaced in the cheeks, temples and jowls as an alternative to a surgical facelift where appropriate. Scars may also be improved.
An assessment is made first to check that a filler will give the best result and how much will be required. Anaesthetic is normally used, either a cream or a dental block. Treatment usually takes 10-30 minutes for the filler to be placed. The effect is immediate and fine-tuning can be done at the time, although a review is always carried out 2-3 weeks later.
Please note that no permanent fillers, associated with high-profile problems with the face and lips, are used at the practice.
The cost of fillers depends on the amount of filler required, but the normal cost of nose-to-mouth lines and lip treatments are £250 and for volumising areas such as the cheeks is £650.
