Chemical peeling is the controlled removal of skin to accelerate the growth of fresh skin which stimulates a natural rejuvenation process. Beauty products contain materials (alpha hydroxyl acids or AHAs) which have this effect on the superficial layers, but at the practice, Easy TCA (trichloroacetic acid) is used which acts at a deeper level with more visible and long-lasting effects. Other creams are used to nourish and protect the skin so that the rejuvenation is optimized.
Peels are used for the whole face and can also be used for the neck and hands where signs of ageing are seen.
The treatment lasts up to 1 year depending, on the number of peels carried out and on general skin care afterwards. A series of 4 peels, each a week apart, is recommended with creams to optimize the rejuvenation of the skin (a sun block cream is mandatory). The peeling takes 2-4 minutes with a neutralizing cream applied and left on. There is some redness the next two days and peeling occurs after 3-5 days but can be covered with makeup so there is no ‘down time’.
The cost of a series of four TCA peels is £450 with the recovery creams separate as they are specific to different skin types and needs.
General Skin Advice
Sun Creams: SPF 30+ with 3+ UVA star rating is the minimum strength for spending time in the sun. It should be applied liberally with total block lip balm to ensure complete protection.
Smoking damages the skin and reduces the skins ability to heal itself. Quitting is the best option, and helpful advice is available from quit.org.uk and smokefree.nhs.uk.
Moisturizers help to keep water in the skin where it is needed, especially for people with dry skin conditions. Any skin products with SPF 15 for sun protection will be more beneficial.
Hot water, strong soaps and vigorous towelling remove skin oils so warm water, mild soaps and gentle towelling are best for the face and neck.
