Botox is a medically refined toxin that reversibly weakens muscles, allowing movement wrinkles to become less obvious. The amount of toxin used is very small and extremely safe when used correctly.
Botox is mostly used in the forehead for ‘surprise’ wrinkles, between the eyes for ‘frown’ wrinkles and besides the eyes for ‘crow’s feet’ wrinkles. Other treatments that botox can be used for are for ‘bunny lines’ on the nose, a ‘gummy smile’, drooping corners of the mouth, chin wrinkles and necklines.
Wrinkles are typically reduced by 80 per cent and a subtle softening instead of a frozen look is normally the best result, although a stronger effect can be produced if desired.
Treatment usually takes 5-20 minutes and creates a minimal interruption of the day. Anaesthetic is not normally required, although ice can be used, as no more than a scratch is usually felt. The effect usually starts after 3-5 days and lasts 3-5 months with a review after 2 weeks to assess the result. Sometimes a top-up of botox is required for fine-tuning.
The cost of botox treatment is £150 for 1 area, £230 for 2 areas and £300 for 3 areas and there is no charge for a top-up at the review appointment if required. There is a £50 surcharge for male patients due to the extra amount of botox needed.
